Bottoms Up

Fried de Metz Herman
Formation: 3 cus. longways.

Al 1-4 Lines of 3 fwd & back with hands joined.
   5-8 Hands 6 halfway (set is now improper & upside down)
A2 1-8 Hey on the other side: cu.l in bottom place cross to other
       side. To start cu.l face up, cus. 2&3 face down (sk.ch.st.)
Bl 1-8 Cu.l in bottom place stand still while cus. 2&3 face down,
       lead thru cu.1, cast back into the 2 top places, cu.2 in the
       lead. Then cus. 2&3 turn S away from ptn.
B2 1-4 Cu.3 in middle place dance 1/2 fig.8 thru cu.2 above.
   5-8 Cu.2 in top place dance 1/2 fig.8 thru cu.3 in the middle
       place (fig.8 sk.ch.st) while
   1-6 Cu.1 in bottom place balance & swing ptn.
   7-8 Cu.1, now proper, fall back from ptn.

Formation: 4 cus. long set cus. 1&3 improper
4 steps to the bar.

Al 1-8 Cus.1&2 and cus.3&4 face each other. Cus. in prom hold
       dance a full hey, start passing by R shoulder. Make wide
       loops, especially at ends.
A2 1   In 2 halves of the set 1/2 R hand star
   2   Middles 1/2 L hand star (ends stand still)
   3-4 Repeat bars 1 & 2. The set is now upside down. Cus.2&4
       are impr in 1st & 3rd places.
   5-6 In 2 halves of the set 1/2 poussette (men pull)
   7-8 The 2 middle cus. 1/2 poussette (men push) while the 2
       end cus. do 2 hand turn with ptn 1/2 way.

BI 1-2 Middles lead thru nearer end cu. and cast back.
   3-4 Ends lead thru nearer middle cu. and cast back.
   5-6 Island Setting (slow tempo): Count 1: Move R foot to R.
       Count 2: Cross L foot behind R. Count 3: Move R foot
       to R. Count 4: Move L foot to L. Count 5: Cross R foot
       behind L foot. Count 6-7: Swing L foot wide to the L.
       Count 8: Cross L foot behind R, sinking down slightly.
   7-8 Repeat bars 5-6.

B2 1-2 All R shoulder B to B with ptn.
   3-4 All R shoulder F en F with ptn. (Face-en-Face: Turn your
       back to ptn, fall back passing pin by R sh, move slightly
       to the R, move fwd passing ptn by L shoulder into own place.)
   5-8 In 2 halves of the set Ladies’ Chain over & back, up &
       down the set. Position now from the top: 3-1-4-2 with
      orig cus.3&4 in improper places.

Doctor Doolittle’s Dance

Formation: 3 cus. longways.

A1 1-4 W1 cast down the outside into 3rd place while M3 move
       up the middle into 1st place 
   3-4 W2&3 move up while M1&2 move down.
   5-8 All 2-hand turn new ptn. End facing up, holding inside
       hands. g up, holding inside hands.
A2 1-8 Top cu. cast, followed by the others, meet in bottom
       place. Cu.l start a progressive hey by R-hand until an
       are improper.

B1 1-8 Hands 6 to the L and back.
B2 1-4 All holding hands in the circle, top cu. lead down the
       middle under the arch of the bottom cu. followed by mid-
       dle cu. as the arch moves up. The bottom cu. turn under
       their own arch. All are now in a back ring.
   5-8 Holding hands in a circle, all balance back & fwd, then
       balance to R & L.
C  1-4 Back ring move to the R (cl.w.) 1/2 way. All release
       hands, turn individually to the R into ...
   5-8 swing with your new ptn.

A2 1-4 Cu l lead down 1 place, cast back (w.st.) while cu.2 go
       1/2 fig.8, start with casting up (sk.ch.st.) 
   5-8 Cu.l go 1/2 fig.8 (sk.ch.st.) while cu.2 cast up 1 place,
       lead down (w.st.)
BI 1-2 All R hand turn ptn 3/4 way into line of four.
   3-6 Ml & W2 turn by L hand 11/2 times while W1 & M2
       go around them cl.w. into each other’s place into line of four.
   7-8 ALR hand turn 3/4 way into progr. places, ending close to ptn.
B2 1-4 Fall back from ptn. Come fwd to ptn.
   5-8 Facing ptn set & turn S to the R leading into the Al movement.

Al 1-8 1st cu. cross, go below into 2nd place (2nd cu. move up),
       2-hand turn 1/2 way, lead thru 3rd cu., cast up into middle
       place (stay outside the set).
A2 1-8 L hand star of 3 we. 1/2 way around while men dance R
       hand star 1/2 way around. Then, starting with cu.l dancers
       cross over into the other star , each wo. in front of her ptn
      (cu.1, cu3, then cu.2). Turn the star 1/2 way more, open
      up in line of 3, all impr. The order from the top is now: 2-1-3.

Bl 1-4 Lines of 3 fwd & back.
   5-8 Hands 6 halfway to the L. All now proper.
B2 1-4 The 2 cus. at the top of the set cross over with ptn.,
       then go down 1 place on outside of set while bottom cu.
       balance, then lead up the middle into top place. The
       order from the top is now 2-3-1.
   5-8 All swing ptn. End all proper.

       while others 1/2 R-hand turn ptn, then L-hand star with
       Cu.3 while others L-hand turn ptn, then R-hand star with
       Cu.4 while others R-hand turn ptn. All L-hand turn ptn.

Lines up & down:
B2 1-2 Men’s line facing down move down while we.’s line facing
       up move up.
   3-4 All turn individually to the R, we. face down, men up.
   5-6 Line of we. move down while line of men move up.
   7-8 All turn individually to the L and face ptn for ...

Chevron figure:
C1 1-4 All R-shoulder chevron with ptn, ending to the R facing
       a new opposite.
       Chevron: A R-shoulder chevron is a R-shoulder B to B
       movement, ending 1/2 place to the right.
   5-8 R-shoulder chevron with this opposite, while the free people 
       at the ends (top wo. & bottom man) cast to the other
       end of own line.
C2 1-8 Repeat C1.

Note. There are 4 chevron movements. The 1st & 3rd chevron is danced by everybody. The 2nd & 4th chevron have a free dancer at the end of each line who will cast.

Al 1-4 M1, followed by W2 & M3, dance around the standing line
       1/2 way (sk.ch.st.), face opposite dancer, join 2 hands.
   5-6 The standing people pull them back in a straight poussette.
   7-8 Hands still joined turn 1/2 way to change places.
A2 1-4 W3, followed by M2 & W1, go around the other line 1/2
       way (sk.ch.st.), face own ptn, join hands.
   5-6 The standing people pull them back in a straight poussette.
   7-8 Hands still joined turn 1/2 way to change places.

Bl 1-2 All balance back & fwd to ptn.
   3-8 End cus. dance 3 changes of Right & Left (start with ptn,
       no hands, w.st.) while middle cu dance R- shoulder gypsy,
       then fall back in line. All home.
B2 1-8 Double hey for 3 cus. (w.st.): The men dance a zig-zag
       hey while the we. do the same. Start: pass R-diag dancer
       by R-shoulder while the ends with no diagonal turn S
       left. Each pass takes 4 steps. Ends follow the rule: after
       passing R (or L), turn S to the R (or L), then pass R (or
       L) again.

After 1x thru the order for the men’s line from the top is: M3-W3-M2,  
                                for the women’s line it is: W2-M1-W1.  
After 2x more, all are in original places.

   5-8 Three dancers, the 2 we. & M1, dance L-hand star plus 1.
Bl 1-4 The 2 we. change places by the L-sh, turning L. Imme-
       diately after, (almost simultaneously) the 2 men change
       places by R-sh, turning R. Then repeat all this to orig
       places (sk.ch.st.) into ...
   5-8 The 2 we. in 1st corner position change places by going
       outside the men c.cl.w. (sk.ch.st.) All progressed, but
       cu.2 improper.
B2 1-2 All 2-hand turn }/2 way with ptn.
   3-6 Hands 4 to the L once around.
   7-8 Cu.l turn 2 hands 1/2 way while cu.2 turn S away from ptn.

Figure:
Bi 1-4 R-sh Chevron with R-diag dancer (as in Sparkling Eyes),
       while free ends cast into free places at other end of own line.
   5-8 All 1 1/2 R-h turn with opposite (all now impr)
B2 1-8 Repeat Bl, substituting L for each R. All are now proper
       with own ptn. Order from top is 3-4-1-2.

Progression:
C 1-4 Cu at top lead down center into bottom place while others
      fa11 back from ptn, come fwd on a slant 1 place up.
   5-8 All set to ptn, turn S.

In the nest 3 times thru, bars (1-4) of A1 & AZ2 are changed as follows
(the rest remains unchanged):
  Introduction 2: Al & A2 (1-4). Siding with ptn.
