SWIRL OF THE SEA

Carolyn and Maurice Dunnett
Square set for 4 couples
Tune: SWIRL OF THE SEA

Al 1-4 Corners turn by the left hand;
   5-8 With hands still joined, corners balance forward and back; all
       step to the right and honor.
A2 1-4 Partners turn by the right hand;
   5-8 With hands still joined, partners balance forward and back; step
       to the left and honor.
B1 1-8 Partners facing to begin, grand right and left all around the ring,
       one waltz step per hand.
B2 1-8 Women join hands for right hand star. Move forward one
       place (2 waltz steps), give left hand to the next man who takes it in
       his right, and continue the star, woman returning to her original
       place with a new partner.

Repeat three times, to original places. Note that while the men progress, the women always return to the same position.

Teaching Tip: The balances seem to work best if you balance forward to your corner on your right foot and back on the left; and forward to your partner on the left foot and back on the right. A way to remember this is that you balance first on the foot you will honor on.

The Dunnetts originally set this dance to the tune Sheebeg and Sheemore, (to which, of course, it goes beautifully), but for me, that tune is firmly wedded to the dance The Bonny Cuckoo.
