THE NINTH OF MAY

Dance and Tune by John Stapledon
4 couples longways, 2's and 4's improper.
A progressive dance in 4 parts with Chorus figure between each.
Tune: THE NINTH OF MAY

Part 1. Leading
Al. 1-2 Lead partners up a double
    3-5 Balance towards partner, away, towards.
    6-9 Cast home and cross with partner, face down.
A2. 1-9 As in At but leading down. Finish in Chorus Position - ie: end couples
        cross and face partner, middles cross wide and face neighbors to
        form circle of 8, alternately man and woman, for -

Chorus Figure Grand Chain
B1. 1-2 In circle - one slow change R.
    3-5 Three quick changes, L, R, L.
    6-9 With next a full and expansive turn R to face back in opposite
        direction.
B2. 1-9 The same back to places, starting L and finishing home 
        in longways set.
C.  1-2 All cross over set and face partners for -
    3-5 Hand touching - together R, together L, together cross hands.
    6-9 First couple lead down to bottom while 2s, 3s, 
        and 4s cast up one place. 
        
Part 2. Siding
Al. 1-2 Partners siding left shoulders half way (half gypsy).
    3-5 Balance towards, away, towards.
    6-9 Cast away and fall back to place.
A2. 1-9 As in A1 but R shoulders. Finish in Chorus Position, end couples
        facing partners and middles facing neighbors.
B1,B2, C. Chorus Figure as in Part 1 but from different positions.

Part 3. Arming
Al. 1-2 Partners arm R half way, release arms.
    3-5 All do a wide loop L.
    6-9 Partners complete the arming R and fall back into places.
A2. 6-9 As in At but arm L and loop R. Finish in Chorus Position.
Bi, B2, C. Chorus Figure as in Part 1 but from different positions.

Part 4. Circle
A1. 1-2 Join hands and circle L a short way.
    3-5 Balance back, forwards, back and release hands
    6-9 Continue circling in single file, then all cast away left and reform the
        circle in opposite direction.
A2. 1-9 As in At but circle R. Finish in Chorus Position.
B1,B2, C. Final Chorus Figure as in Part 1 but from different positions.
