SPECTATOR SPECIAL
Fried de Metz Herman
Sicilian Circle Potter's Porch
Tune: Planxty Irwin (Colonel John Irwin)
Al 1-4 Right hand star with opposite couple; 5-8 Women chain halfway. A2 1-4 Left hand star; 5-8 Left shoulder back-to-back with partner, who is now opposite. B1 1-4 Partners set right and left and change places, passing right shoulder; 5-8 Neighbors set right and left and change places, passing right shoulder. B2 1-2 Join two hands with partner for a poussette, men moving backwards, women forwards, and curving into progressed places. 3-4 While still holding hands, balance right and left; 5-8 Partners swing, ending progressed, facing original direction.
Teaching tip: Remind dancers at the beginning of the dance to note their line of direction and identify the next couple they will dance with. Fried likes to be sure that in the B1 the dancers take the time to fully finish changing places, maintaining eye contact, rather than rushing on to the next figure! Also note that the two stars (as with other stars in this collection) are danced with corners taking hands across, rather than a wrist-hold grip. Fried likes to pair this tune by Carolan with the traditional Jig, John Kelly.
