Al 1-4 Ist py standing outside 2nd cpl., hands joined in a line of 4 facing up, all lead up and fall back into set formation, 1st cpl. above 2nd cpl. 5-8 1st cpl. cross R., move down the outside into 2nd place and 2-hand turn half round to finish between 2nd cpl. in another line of 4 facing up, as 2nd cpl. meet, lead up into 1st place and cast out onto the ends of the line (2 + 2 + 4 steps). A2 1-4 Line of 4 lead up and fall back into set formation, 2nd cpl. above 1st cpl. 5-8 2nd cpl. cross R., move down the outside and 2-hand turn half round into original place, as 1st cpl. meet, lead up and turn away from each other into their original place (2 + 2 + 4 steps). Bl 1-4 Ptns. clap: together, R, together, L., then all turn S., 1st cpl. up, 2nd cpl. down. 5-8 Ist cpl. long cast down into 2nd place and face down, as 2nd cpl. 2-hand turn once round, moving up into 1st place, and face up. B2 1-4 With the next cpl, nbrs. clap: together, R., together, L., then all turn S. away from ptn., out of the set. 5-8 1st cpl. lead down through 2nd cpl. below and cast up to stand outside them, joining hands in a new line of 4 facing up, ready for the start of the next turn of the dance.

This dance appears in the same collection as Epsom New Wells, to which its title may be related.
Or Well Hall, Eltham, was a magnificent mansion dating from Tudor times, then located outside London. It came into the hands of the Roper family in the 16th century, and the stone bridge and Tudor barn of the Roper-era estate are still extent.
