Very little is currently known about the dancing master Mr. baglestield. [Not even us first name can be stated with certainty although the Musicians’ Company, the London livery company favoured by dancing masters active in the City, had a Thomas Eaglesfield among its members in 1696.
Cecil Sharp substitutes the tune Cobbler’s Hornpipe for his interpretation of this dance, the title of which he gives as Mr. Englefield’s New Hornpipe.
