Millennium Morning

{Leslie Lassetter)

Duple minor longways
Orly L. Krasner, 2000

A1 1-4 2s face up and join inside hands to make an arch and move it over the Is into
1st place, while the 1s lead down into 2nd place; all cloverleaf turn single {2s up
and away, 1s down and away). All progressed.
5-8 Similarly, men form a moving arch over the women who lead across, all trading
places with partner; all cloverleaf turn single out of the set.
              All progressed and improper.
A2 1-4   1s form a moving arch over the 2s who lead down, all trading places with neighbor;
all cloverleaf turn single {1s up and away, 2s down and away).
              All home but improper.
5-8 Women form a moving arch over the men who lead across, all trading places with
partner; all cloverleaf turn single out of the set. All home.
B 1-4 Neighbors lead out a double, change hands, and come back.
5-8 Partners two-hand turn once around.
9-12 Circle four to the left once around.
13-16 Partners set right and left; 1s cast down into 2nd place, while 2s leads up.

Teaching tip: 1st corner people always turn single right and 2nd corner people always turn single left.

After the millennium New Year's Eve dance in Westchester, Leslie Lassetter and I shared hospitality before heading to Boston the next day for another dance. Leslie composed the tune over a leisurely breakfast. Before we left, she showed the tune to Gene Murrow who immediately pronounced it “a keeper” and handed it to me for a dance. (I suspect he did so to prevent me from nattering endlessly on the drive.~) There was an M&Ms candy time capsule at the Westchester dance which, in association with the new year's date in Roman numerals, led us to think of “golden arches,” hence the central component of this dance.
