Fixups

Graham did an analysis of the dance lists from the years we have them.

There are MANY typos and errors. John went through all the names for which we appeared to NOT have instructions. Many were simply mis-typings of dances we did have, as explained below. Thus our wiki does not have instructions for the dances below, but apparently we did dance them at some point.

I (John) have rather arbitrarily made a decision about some of the entries and put them BELOW a line of equal signs, i.e., ==========. Very cryptic explanations are given. If you know the dance and have instructions / music or other information, feel free to edit the entry and move above the line.

Above the line are titles I believe exist. For some there are videos or animations or …. I REALLY welcome help to get these in the index.

Also if you find things in the index and find music or (good) videos, feel free to add links. Also to note “dead” links. Ask if you need login credentials.

John Nash, 2026-1-5 (other editors, please add a note here with date so we get some idea of activity on the file, and do note if a dance is now entered and indexed so people don't spend wasted effort).

-----------------------
The English country dance "Candles in the Phoenix" is a contemporary dance, often described as a beautiful and flowing waltz
. It was choreographed by the English dance figure Nigel Kilby (1945-2012).
Information regarding the dance's creation often notes it was written in the early 2000s and has since become a popular piece in the modern English country dance repertoire, frequently danced at various events and workshops internationally.
Due to the dynamic nature of English Country Dancing, specific details of the dance steps can vary slightly by interpretation or specific calling instructions. Detailed instructions or music can sometimes be found through specialized dance resources or by contacting English Country Dance organizations like the Ottawa English Country Dance Club.

The dance is typically a Triple Minor (for three couples in a longways set) formation. The general figures are as follows:

Bars 1-8: The 1st couple dances a parallel right-shoulder reel of three on their own sides.
Bars 9-16: All three couples dance a Grand Chain (hands-across figure).
Bars 17-24: The 1st couple leads down the middle of the set and back up to the top.
Bars 25-32: The 1st couple casts down one place, dances in and leads down between the 3rd couple, casts up around the 3rd couple, and crosses to face their 1st corners.
Bars 33-40: The 1st couple turns their 1st corners with the right hand, their partner with the left hand, their 2nd corners with the right hand, and their partner with the left hand, ending facing their 1st corners.
Bars 41-48: The 1st couple dances a reel of three on the opposite side, passing their 1st corner by the left shoulder to begin. They cross right hands back to their original side places (now as the 2nd couple in the set's progression).
