Music: Mendocino Cure by Dave Bartley, 2007
Teaching Points:
Al and A2 diagonal changes: Same people (original 1% diagonals) always cross first.
B 5-8: The back to back is a strong movement out for about five steps and then a collection on sixth step to back up, ending close to partner; out of the final 2-hand turn the 2s fall back and then Is stay close ready to lead down.
For the progression we suggest the 2s not take hands when they move up since it is a quick transition into the beginning of the dance.
This dance recalls Tom Colton's woozy appearance at the 2003 Mendocino English Dance and Music Week two days after his first chemotherapy treatment for a lymphoma that had invaded his bones and lung. By the end of the week the magic of Mendocino (plus his wife Ellen Simms’ nursing) had done its work, launching Tom into recovery with energy, grace, and humor. Back at Mendocino in 2007, still footloose and cancer-free, Tom and Ellen were ready to celebrate with a new dance to commemorate the Mendocing Cure. We first met Tom and Ellen at this camp; it is one of our favorite places to dance together. We look forward to dancing and hiking with them or many years to come,
