Minutes thanks to Michelle

Just to review what I took away from the meeting:

There was unanimous expression that a Ball is not on for this year - too many unknowns at this time and let’s get back to dancing first (June was not there but sent email with her thoughts along this line. Don’t know John’s opinion. 7 people attended)
We talked about waiting to see how vaccines will hold up with variant, 4th wave and do we or can we ask dancers to be double vaccinated. 

We went on to discuss next year:
Should or could we keep caller and musicians booked when we just don’t know … 
Cost of hall, what are caller and musicien charging, who will be comfortable travelling, travel cost, public health restriction etc?
Who would come and how many Ottawa dancers will there be? Do you have enough dancers to make it financially viable?

Paying an exgracia: (cancellation gratuity)
We did it last year but was there the same level of commitment/expectation for this year?  What can we afford?  Would this keep these particular musicians ‘in the wings’ for next year?

Finally there was a sense of putting cart before the horse by planning a ball when we are not yet gathering to dance 
Booking of such fine musicians and callers has taken some forward planning, so we are reluctant to ‘let them go’. 
On shorter notice  we can have a Ball on a local level with our own callers and musicians and this  makes sense financially and emotionally - getting used to gathering in large groups (dance is such an intimate sport) 
We talked of doing this to start but we all dream of holding a grand event once again. 

This meeting was very productive but not finished so we plan to gather again soon with treasure to confirm bank balance and viability of exgracia to caller musicians and sound person. 

I am away and not able to internet connect Aug1-Aug7 but any evening before or after is fine.
