It might have been an interpolation in Purcell's Fairy Queen, which was based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and features the Pyramis and Thisbe scene in which a "hole in the wall" is prominent. We have not been able to find a London reference for this title, although there is an old pub in Bath known as "The Hole in the Wall," the reference there said to be to the coal chute.
